Love and desire often exist just beneath the surface of Austen’s novel. In Passion, Sylvain Dubrunfaut (Lille, France) brings that unspoken intimacy into view, capturing the moment before two men kiss. Contemporary clothing and saturated color place the scene firmly in the present, while their closeness creates a tension that is both restrained and sensual. Reimagining the magnetic pull between Elizabeth and Darcy through queer desire, Sylvain celebrates a love that was once hidden and gives it the visibility and freedom Austen could only suggest.
