French-born, Brooklyn-based artist Fanny Allié transforms discarded textiles into poetic, tactile compositions that explore memory, identity, and connection. In The Ball, fragments of found fabric are stitched into an abstract gathering of figures, their bodies bending, reaching, and clinging to one another. Inspired by Austen’s world of social performance, the work captures the choreography of attraction and connection. Loose threads and delicate outlines blur the boundaries between bodies and surroundings, suggesting identities continually shaped and rearranged.

What inspires the artist?
“My practice is deeply rooted in the everyday—gestures, routines, and traces left behind, re-imagining them through a socially engaged lens. Austen invites us to look at the gap between what it seems like and what it actually is—the hidden power dynamics and prejudices of a society and its characters.”
