French-born, Brooklyn-based artist Fanny Allié transforms discarded materials into tactile explorations of memory, identity, and connection. In First Impressions, found fabric and acrylic bring abstracted figures into a fleeting, intimate encounter. Soft pink introduces a sensual note, while stitched bodies and layered fragments suggest attraction, vulnerability, and misreading. Referencing Austen’s original title for the novel, the work captures the instability of first impressions—and the possibility of seeing one another anew.

What inspires the artist?
“My practice is deeply rooted in the everyday—gestures, routines, and traces left behind, re-imagining them through a socially engaged lens. Austen invites us to look at the gap between what it seems like and what it actually is—the hidden power dynamics and prejudices of a society and its characters.”
