Have you ever looked at a piece of artwork and wished you could just step through the frame? Have you ever felt like if you got just a little bit closer you could smell the wildflowers, and feel the grass blowing in the wind? Nobody captures the movement and energy of a landscape quite like the impressionists. Rather than stylized scenes from literature or mythology, or the metaphorical weight of every object in a still life, the impressionists strove to capture how nature moved and felt, fluctuating from one moment to the next.
No one mastered this dynamic more than Claude Monet, whose artwork has become known for its transient, spontaneous depictions of light and color. And while you may not be able to step into a Monet painting, you can certainly visit some of the real places that inspired his most famous artworks.
