Nothing holds a place in our memory quite like the books we read when we were kids. There is something in the words, the turning of the pages at such a formative age that gives these books an enduring nostalgia that lasts all the way to adulthood. Can you remember: light dappled and golden, air warm and humid, falling asleep with a book perched on your chest, and waking to curtains blowing in the wind?

While we can’t bring you back to an age when you didn’t have a mortgage and had no idea what income tax was, we can bottle the feeling. Here are 5 dreamy children’s books that will make you feel like a kid again!

Alice's Adventures in Wonderland by Lewis Carroll

From the White Rabbit to the Mad Hatter to Alice herself, Lewis Carroll’s enduring children’s book has ushered in more iconic characters than any other. Nothing will make you reconnect with your childhood like the absolute chaos and nonsense of Wonderland!

Anne of Green Gables by L.M. Montgomery

Reading about the lush, rolling fields of Saint Edwards’ island is like traveling back to a simpler time: one of beautiful nature, enduring friendship, and chosen family. Grow up alongside Anne, with all the joys, sorrows, and lessons that accompany the beautiful journey.

The Silver Trilogy by Kirsten Gier

Full of mystery, magic, and romance, Kirsten Gier’s iconic trilogy follows the charming and hilarious Liv Silver as she enters the world of dream traveling. This phenomenal young-adult series will have you closing your eyes and hoping to be transported to another world.

The Secret Garden by Frances Hodgson Burnett

Frances Hodgson Burnett’s enduring novel on the healing power of nature has enchanted readers for over a hundred years. Young Mary Lennox may be quite contrary at the start of the novel, but her journey to health and recovery is as vibrant, wholesome, and heartwarming as the little girl herself.

The City of Ember by Jeanne DuPrau

Jeanne DuPrau’s iconic series follows two friends desperate to save their doomed city. Ember is the only light in this dark, dystopian future, but when the underground city’s lights begin to flicker, Lina and Doon must go to great lengths to save their city and keep the lights on.

We hope you enjoy this trip down memory lane and back through the pages of childhood. Just remember, just because we’re grown-ups now doesn’t mean there isn’t magic to be found.
